We have reached the end of our unit: Who We Are is Shaped by the People Around Us. I asked the children to use 'Draw and Tell' on the ipads to show me the people that make them who they are and tell me how they influence them in their lives.
Today we created a card for Mr. Nathan and Mr. Dino to thank them for organising our incredible Sports Day last week. Everyone wanted to sign our card and some people sign their names - all on their own - for the first time! Aubrey was one of them. Well done Aubrey! Sorting is a very important skill the children are learning as a part of Word Study and Maths. Sorting and classifying objects not only teaches children about attributes, relationships and adds to their vocabularies, but also promotes thinking logically and applying rules. Sorting and classifying exercises are teaching kids skills for real life because they provide children with models for organizing things in the real world. And it's fun! Here is a video of Aubrey sorting shells into different groups. It’s difficult to hear, as a lot of talk happens during sorting as children communicate their ideas to each other, but Aubrey has sorted his shells by how they feel, displaying his analytic and reasoning skills as well as his impressive vocabulary. |
