Sorting is a very important skill the children are learning as a part of Word Study and Maths. Sorting and classifying objects not only teaches children about attributes, relationships and adds to their vocabularies, but also promotes thinking logically and applying rules. Sorting and classifying exercises are teaching kids skills for real life because they provide children with models for organizing things in the real world. And it's fun! Here is a video of Aubrey sorting shells into different groups. It’s difficult to hear, as a lot of talk happens during sorting as children communicate their ideas to each other, but Aubrey has sorted his shells by how they feel, displaying his analytic and reasoning skills as well as his impressive vocabulary. |
