I remembered the one special shell, which held the whispers of the mermaids. I remembered how the sun had been so important to us to light our way and keep us warm. I remembered how the sun switched places with the moon at night – a perfect pair of two, always taking turns in the sky. I remembered the special time we had spent just the three of us – me, mum, and dad. And how we had looked up into the night sky and found four special stars that would always guide us home. I thought about all the wonderful food we had eaten and how dad had caught five fish for us to eat in the ocean. I then remembered our journey to the beehive, when mum and I saw all the honeycombs with six perfect sides, fit together like a perfect puzzle. One of my favorite memories was the big storm that came and changed the colour of the sky in so many different ways. First from light to dark, blue to black, and then into 7 magical colours of a rainbow. I then thought about our walk just from today when we saw so many special animals, like the snake who made the shape and sound of an ‘S’, the spider with eight legs and eight eyes, and the cat with nine lives. Finally, I remembered our walk through the mud, squishing and squashing, counting my fingers and toes: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.
I closed my eyes and enjoyed the moments of our last night in this special place. I closed my eyes, listening to mum get dinner ready behind me.
