"While recognizing the importance of knowledge, concepts and skills, these alone do not make an internationally minded person. It is vital that there is also focus on development of personal attributes towards people, towards the environment and towards learning, attitudes that contribute to well-being of the individual and of the group. By deciding that the attitudes need to be an essential part of the programme, the PYP is making a commitment to a values-laden curriculum." Making the PYP Happen
Risk-takers approach uncertainty with determination and explore new ideas and strategies. They are resilient when faced with a challenge.
Aubrey sees himself as a risk-taker because he tries things even when he's not 100% sure about what to do. Aubrey challenges himself and tries new things despite his misgivings. Keep up the great work Aubrey!
During our UOI we discovered that shapes are an integral part of the world around us. We noticed them on our class trip and we took photographs of the shapes we could spot around the school.
From this we created a comprehensive list of the shapes we knew and experimented with making shapes as well as using shapes to create different structures (such as buildings, landscapes etc.) using a range of materials including: paints, geo boards, peg boards, coloured paper, foam shapes, fabrics, iPads & more!
Aubrey and Julian have created two towers and a road through the middle. The semicircles at the bottom of the structure are for buses to go through. Aubrey chose this structure to share on his e-portfolio because he "loves making towers."
Patterns are everywhere! We have been noticing & exploring patterns in our everyday lives as well as creating some patterns of our own. Aubrey chose to share this particular piece of 'pattern' work in his e-portfolio because he "learned how to fix a pattern."
We have been reflecting on all of the experiences we have had as a part of our 'How We Organise Ourselves' unit. To prompt some discussion about how we move and why, Ms. Karla, Ms. Alison & Mr. Nathan created a play area full of fun equipment use. Students were able to play freely, then discussed how and why they were moving in different ways with a teacher. Here is Aubrey's movement conference:
We have reached the end of our unit: Who We Are is Shaped by the People Around Us. I asked the children to use 'Draw and Tell' on the ipads to show me the people that make them who they are and tell me how they influence them in their lives.
Today we created a card for Mr. Nathan and Mr. Dino to thank them for organising our incredible Sports Day last week. Everyone wanted to sign our card and some people sign their names - all on their own - for the first time! Aubrey was one of them. Well done Aubrey!
